In the town of Macerata, the annual opera festival celebrates its 50th season this year between July 18-August 10. The theme this year is ”Opera is Female.” The beautiful open-air arena from the early 1800’s is one of Europe’s premier venues for opera performances.
The 50th opera season at the Sferisterio honors three great melodrama heroines: new productions for Aida, which opened the first season in 1921, and Tosca, together with the revival of La Traviata of Mirrors by Brockhaus and Svoboda. All three operas will have a female conductor.
